Community Support

UPDATE AS OF JULY 2025

In mid-2025 the Syrian border was re-opened and milliions of refugees returned to a shattered homeland. TIAFI, who worked primarily with displaced people and refugees made the difficult decision to close its doors in Turkey and reorganise to work directly in Syria. Once they are re-established and have set up their new home base and programmes we will inform you.

Facilities & Infrastructure within the Camp

Part of supporting refugee families living in transitory tented communities is making sure they have potable water, toilets and sanitary conditions that reduce disease, as well as making sure there are wheelchair ramps and handrails for the disabled. Additionally, we help repair chimneys, fridges, washing machines and anything else we are qualified to do to improve their daily lives. We work with local organisations on a voluntary basis and foster the idea of community and human spirit.

Advice and Legal Assistance

TIAFI offers something called Info Point. Refugees can get face-to-face support for their needs, accessible via WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook. It is well regarded amongst the refugee communities in Turkey (and internationally) for navigating the Turkish asylum system, the education system and health and social services.

Izmir Bar Association has generously teamed up with TIAFI to offer a free weekly legal clinic advising on legal and asylum matters, healthcare, housing, education, ID appointments, Red Crescent registrations, Employment, Training and more.

Info Point is open during weekdays between 09:00 pm and 5:30 pm with a lawyer in residence who speaks Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish and English and can also be contacted via WhatsApp .
